Join us for a stroll through a simpler time as we visit Mount Airy, North Carolina— the fabled hometown of Andy Griffith! The Andy Griffith Show charmed America for eight seasons with its depiction of a small town with big heart— and now, you can see the town that inspired it all.

 

We begin our trip with a stop in Santa Claus, Indiana and an overnight stay in Lexington, Kentucky. Then, it’s on to picturesque North Carolina! In Mount Airy, we enjoy a lecture by Neal Brower, a professor who has taught classes and even published a book on The Andy Griffith Show! The next day, we get the VIP treatment with a tour of the town... in Barney Fife’s squad car! The tour takes us to such sights as Andy’s homeplace, Floyd’s Barber Shop and the Old Jail, before we dine at Snappy Lunch, a local landmark diner serving up delicious eats and old-time atmosphere.

 

We head over to the Andy Griffith Museum for a behind-the-scenes tour and a chance to view the museum’s collection before experiencing a wine tasting at a local vineyard and an old-time bluegrass experience. We stop in Beckley, West Virginia, to tour the Beckley Exhibition Mine, and then it’s home with wonderful memories of the town that captured America’s hearts throughout the 60s!
