Once a titan of the shipbuilding industry in the 19th century, Belfast launched hundreds of ships into the maritime trade. Today, the town's heart beats in its downtown area, where ornate Victorian buildings house an array of unique shops, art galleries, and diverse eateries, drawing both residents and visitors into its lively atmosphere. The city's waterfront offers stunning views of Penobscot Bay and serves as a prime spot for kayaking and sailing, upholding its seafaring traditions. Historically, Belfast played a pivotal role during the Civil War, providing substantial support through shipbuilding and contributing to the Union's naval strength, a testament to its enduring spirit and resilience.
